The directors of the Castletown Foundation strongly and unreservedly condemn the damage perpetrated by vandals on OPW vehicles and facilities at Donaghcomper. We would like to extend our support to Office of Public Works staff who have been impacted by this wanton vandalism and assault on their workplace and working conditions. We encourage anyone with any knowledge of this incident to come forward and report it to the Gardai.
This incident highlights the need for decisive action by Minister Moran to fully reopen Castletown House and parklands to protect the house, collections and historic landscape. Immediate full and unimpeded access to Castletown for OPW vehicles and staff is essential to the safeguarding of this vital national treasure which we at the Castletown Foundation together with the Office of Public Works are entrusted with managing for all the people of Ireland in the present and for the future.
